The Magnolia State is home to so many trophy bucks that Mississippi hunters know there's no need to hunt anywhere else. That's why US 96.3 and Mississippi Sportsman magazine are teaming up to sponsor the Big Buck Bounty contest, which is open exclusively to deer killed in Mississippi.

The contest will run Oct. 1, 2011, through Feb. 20, 2012, and is for hunters who harvest a buck during the 2011-12 deer season.

Prizes will be awarded to the top-scoring entries in the following classes: Typical Men's, Women's and Youth; Non-Typical Men's, Women's and Youth; Typical Archery and Non-Typical Archery. Youth are categorized as those 15 years of age and younger at the time of the harvest.

All entries of whitetail deer must be entered at an official WUSJ (US 96.3) and Mississippi Sportsman scoring location. Those are Dan Heasley Taxidermy at 12310 Highway 18 in Raymond, Dave's Custom Meats at 1680 Highway 80 East in Vicksburg and Sportsman's Deer Processing at 162 Feather Lane (I-55 Frontage Road) in Canton.

Hunters with an official Boone & Crockett score sheet and horns stamped by a scorer may enter the contest by completing an official entry form at one of the three official scoring locations and attaching their B&C score sheet.

All entrants 18 years or older who have their deer scored at an official scoring location will be entered to win a grand prize at the Big Buck Bounty Finale event held in Jackson on March 24, 2012. Entrants must be present to win. Random door prizes will also be awarded. Guests get to enjoy a great meal and a presentation by a local wildlife biologist.
