The 2012 Bass Pro Shops Crappie Masters National Championship will be held Oct. 5-6 on the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway near Columbus. Some 200 teams and 400 competitors will be vying for the $150,000 in cash and prizes - and the championship title.

The week of events begins with the anglers meeting and greeting the public on Oct. 2 at the Columbus Convention & Visitors Bureau office from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

On Oct. 4, media representatives will pair up with professional anglers to compete for bragging rights. In addition, the 2012 youth scholarship championship, in which six pre-qualified young anglers compete along with professional anglers for a chance at up to $4,000 in scholarship money, will be held.

These two events will be held at the Columbus Marina at 295 Marina Drive.

The main competition will begin Oct. 5, with fishable waters being between Amory Lock and Dam in the north and Tom Bevill Lock and Dam in the south.

Competitors will fish from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on the first day of the championship. Anglers must be in the weigh-in line no later than 4:30 p.m. at the Columbus Marina, and the public is invited to come watch competitors as they weigh in their catches for each day.

Saturday's competition will run from 7 a.m. until 2:30 p.m., with anglers required to be in the weigh-in line by 3:30 p.m.

The winning teams will receive their awards and recognition at an awards banquet that night at the Trotter Convention Center beginning at 6 p.m.

The first-place team will win two fully rigged Tracker Marine Nitro Z7 boats, complete with 150-horsepower Mercury outboards.

All in all, nearly $150,000 in cash and prizes from the national sponsors will be awarded to the winning teams.
