Managing deer herds will be the subject of two two-day workshops sponsored by the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks and Mississippi State University.

* The first is June 13-14 at Heartland Church, 385 Stateline Rd., in Southaven.

* The second is July 18-19 at the Central R&E Center, 1320 Seven Springs Rd. in Raymond.

Both events will include two full days of instruction, with Day 1’s emphasis on management concepts and Day 2’s on management applications.

On Day 1, topics include camera survey setup, deer nutrition, food plots, deer habitat, deer ecology, harvest management and predator management.

Day 2’s topics are camera survey picture analysis, deer harvest data analysis, aging deer and wild hog management.

Credits can be earned toward MS Professional Logger Program, Continuing Forestry Education and Certified Wildlife Biologist Renewal/Professional Development.

Cost of each workshop is $95 per day, or $180 for both days, and the fee includes lunch, materials and either a cap or t-shirt.
