Fishing the Super Moon for Big Trout

Sunday and Monday was ok weather and great in the fishing department. Sunday I had Johnny and Danny in town from Laurel. The boys were very much liking the close drive to fishing. I think a little of that might have been the gaming floor at the Beau Rivage Casino? Anywho, after the boys broke even at the Casino, we rolled the dice in the LA Marsh under a Super Moon Morning. Have to admit, it was pretty cool going across with that giant full moon. Got set up over diving birds, and jumping shrimp in 3 to 5 foot of water. Could not really go anywhere else do to a nasty storm. We had a get-a-way, but it would have put away from the marsh. Decided to wait it out, fish and see what the storm was going to do. Mother nature smiled on us, and the fish gods gave us an open mouth kiss. The boys got their 50 fish limit in no time at all. Think they would have traded all of those trout for the 2 bull reds that pulled them all over the boat. Changed from popping corks, to live bait as the morning drew on. When the birds and shrimp stopped showing themselves, the live shrimp on the bottom finished off the last 15 or so trout. Even got to fish next to my buddies from the 'Ponce De Leon Fishing Team', great crew there. Made it back to the Shiyou Caddy dock in time to sample of the BBQ Capt Kenny had cooking for us on the grill. What a way to end the day!

Had so much fun with Nathan Guice on Saturday afternoon, he booked again today. With the kids in school, he got his best freind Blaze to play hookey. He wanted more of those fat trout we caught(thanks again for the spot Capt Kenny). We jumped around all day and would get a big trout here there. All the fishing was on live bait, but the trash fish were burning through our live bait. Near the end of the day Capt Kenny called us in to yet another good bite. He was just finishing up his limit with Mack and Calvin from Jackson. He grinded out his limit and it payed off big time. He had another box of 3 to 5 pound trout. Capt Kenny has been on quite the hot streak the last week. Well, the grind was where it was at today, and we did not grind. We moved a bunch, and caught fish at every stop, it was just slower. We had to come in at 10 AM so the boys could make a meeting in Mandeville. Their care package consisted of 25 big trout. Nathan did hook 2 UFO's but we did see a few jacks in the area we were fishing. Can't help but wonder if they were cobia after the on Capt Kyle's crew got on Saturday...

Did see the boy wonder, Capt Matt with his crew of one, John Clemmons at the skinning shed. Capt Matt also did the grind and also filled the boat. The fact that he filled the boat with only one guys is a testament to the size of the trout he caught.

Shore Thing Fishing Charters has teamed up with the Bay Waveland Yacht Club for a first time ever YOUNG ANGLERS FISHING SCHOOL. It will be held on the grounds of the BWYC and taught by professional fishing guides from the area, as well as Venice, LA. Assistance in the Fish ID and Biology sections will be taught by members of the Gulf Coast Research Lab. Classes will run every Monday in June and July(no class on JULY 2nd). The first Monday will be classroom teaching:

rigging

technique

safety

boat knowledge

simple repair

equipment use

casting

fish ID

first aid

navigation

boating and fishing etiquette

etc...

The second Monday(weather permitting) will be a professionally guided fishing trip in an around the Bay of St Louis with licensed and experienced Charter Boat Captains. We will apply the classroom lessons on the water, and have fun doing it while we are fishing!

We will try and pair similar ages and or experience levels together as best we can. Ages 8 an up please.
