Venice Guide Service Mid January Report
What a winter we're having, or lack of. Usually once the water temps get below 57 degrees the keeper size redfish quit biting, and even though the river is at 43, we are still finding 60 degree water in our redfish holes.rnrnI had a second Arkansas crew come down and fish with me the 16-18th, and it was on fire.rnrnThe first day, would be a spec day, and even though we only caught 15 specs, I was able to move the boat about 50 yards and they got their limit of redfish plus about 20- sheepsheads. I forgot to take the dock shot.rnrnThe second day we would target redfish and they got their limit, plus around 17 black drum and 6 or 7 sheepsheads.rnrnThe third day they wanted me to take them bass fishing. After waiting out the fog I brought them to my super top secret bass hole. And it was crazy, we were tripling and quadrupling hookups constantly.rnrnEnjoy the pics.

Venice Guide Service - Late November Report
The river finally went down, the redfish and trout have moved into the passes. Most of my trips right now are evening trips (they duck hunt in the morning) so I haven’t really been targeting speckled trout. I’ve gotten to the outside a few times and have only caught a few trout out there too. But the redfish have been insane as usual.rnrnrnThese are pics from my last few trips, enjoy.

I just got off of a 2 week stretch and boy did we make the fish pay.rnrn rnrnI had several really nice, new groups of people come fishing with me as well some yearly regulars. The people have just been amazing.rnrnThe river will probably go down below the 4′ mark this week, all it needs to do then is turn green and we’ll start the speckled trout slaughter on the inside. There are tons of rat reds running around and almost every day, catching 40-50 redfish is common but you have to throw a lot of them back. I’ve just been having to look for those spots that have the larger keeper reds.rnrn rnrnAnyways, enjoy the pics, I start back up again tomorrow. My wife is gonna kill me.

Here’s some pics from my last few trips. Most of them have been evening trips and with only a few hours in the evenings we’ve been getting it done. Today I am broiling that juicy little tripletail I caught Monday and my dive buddy shot a 188 Yellowfin Tuna

Venice Guide Service Early October Report
The river is still hovering at 5+ feet and the trout do not come into the river until it gets below 4′. So, no trout on the inside in Venice. People are catching trout at the islands sometimes but the last person that I know went out there today only caught 2.I’ve been going redfishing, mangrove fishing, and doing some insane bullredding. My last 2 trips catching bull reds we had 35 and the next day 42, then the flu or something hit me and I had to come .I’d like to post more often but just can’t because I’m always working.Enjoy the pics.

Venice Guide Service Mid September Report
One day the river is clean and fish are in the river and the next day it's dirty and the fish are in the bays. The redfish are still biting like crazy and now the flounders are showing up. If you get on the outside you have a chance at some really nice sized tripletail.rnrnEnjoy the pics.rnrnp.s. The tripletail story, rnrnI just got to this rig, and I had my customers fishing some live shrimp. I grabbed my rod and threw it out with a livey on it and BAM!, tripletail. I do what all good guides do and hand my rod to my customer and take his. At the same time, my other customer hooks a tripletail, too! They mess around and let both of the fish get tangled together and break both fish off. I was devastated and they had no clue what they just did. They were from Arkansas.rnrnI retied their rigs and got them fishing again, while they were fishing I go to the bow and fling out a black and chartreuse, BAM! I have another tripletail on. I look at my customers and tell them, 'you don't have a Shot in Hell at getting this rod from me'. I tell them to 'reel up', they do and in the process a ladyfish gets on one of the guys lines. Well wouldn't you know it, the ladyfish jumps out the water and makes 2 loops over my line. I somehow got all of that untangled and am getting the fish to the boat. The fish is still about 6' deep and my customer is digging the net down in the water trying to net him before I can even bring him to the surface. Needless to say, there was some yelling involved.rnrnIt was a miracle I landed that fish, and I don't think the guys from Arkansas will ever forget this trip of a lifetime.

The river is still teetering around 5-6' and just wont go down all the way, but in Venice, you can always count on redfish.rnrnEnjoy the pics.

Cc: NOAA Administrator Jane Lubchenco

Dear Mr. President and Administrator Lubchenco:

I write to express sincere opposition regarding the Interagency Ocean Policy Task Force Interim Framework for Effective Coastal and Marine Spatial Planning (Interim Framework). Although I have long supported reasonable policy mechanisms to enhance interagency coordination on oceans policy issues, the Interim Framework gives the impression that the administration is seeking to implement fundamental changes to both the regulatory structure and statutory authorities that form the basis for nearly every aspect of oceans management and use.

The Gulf of Mexico retains significant economic, cultural, and social importance to the state of Louisiana. If the intention of the Interim Framework is to create a new government superstructure headed by the National Ocean Council at the expense of the role of the states, which have primary jurisdiction for resident fish and wildlife, I can assure you that the states, in particular the Gulf states, will have zero tolerance for and much indignation over such a gross expansion of federal authority.

I urge the administration to back away from any efforts to supersede or diminish existing federal and state laws that govern our ocean fisheries for both commercial and recreational use. The Interim Framework brazenly calls for a top-down federal approach to every aspect of ocean management, and would impact every sector and every conceivable ocean activity without input from all stakeholders.

I can assure you that continued pursuit of the Interim Framework will exacerbate current concerns with NOAAs ability to effectively manage the oceans for all users as well as mistrust and resentment of the agency. I respectfully request immediate public access to all comments and recommendations NOAA has delivered to the Council on Environmental Quality, as a well as a list of all Executive Orders and statutory and regulatory authorities the administration is contemplating utilizing in implementing Marine Spatial Planning and the Interim Framework.

I hope that your administration can keep in mind that the role of the government is to effectively manage resources for all citizens to enjoy with input from all stakeholders, not to cut off access to resources, like prohibiting commercial and recreational fishing, at the behest of a handful of special interest groups.

Sincerely,

David Vitter
U.S. Senator

Hopedale fishing
Had the pleasure today to fish with cousin, Capt. Ben Leto, not only is he an on the water comedian, he is a bad assed fisherman. Ben can throw his lure in a swimming pool and come up with a trout. Also, I was very impressed with his 24ft. Privateer. The boat was awsome fast and only sipped gas with his 250hp. 4 stroke Yahamama.

Kudos cousin, anyone that doesn't book this dude is just, missing the boat!!!
