Tuna Fishing 'Off the Hook'
Well where do I start? If you're reading this you've probably been keeping up with what’s going on in Venice, Louisiana, and you know the fishing has been “off the hook” if you will this late winter coming into early spring. It is mind blowing to think there has literally been hundreds of yellowfin tuna over 120 lbs hit the dock between cypress cove and Venice marina in the last seven days. The weather has also kind of been on our side this year. Our trips over the weekend were great, with calm seas, sunny skies, a fog less river, and plenty of big fish chewing. We have had action on almost all of our trips from the time we start till the time we’re finished within the past two weeks. Right now we are chumming for them so its very hands on for the customer as they get to run their own rod and hook their own fish and good news is there have been plenty of bites for mistakes lol. I am expecting this march to be top notch and this furious bite to last.rnrnThe wahoo have also shown up in large numbers, but with them being located around 50 miles or so from where we are catching the yft its makes them hard to really get on both in the same day. We have been picking up a few going to and from tuna fishing and not having to run more than 25 30 miles out the pass to get either species, but if you really want to try and target both I would suggest booking two days where we would dedicate one day to tunas and the next to wahoo. The average size on the wahoos have been around 30 to 60 lbs with some ranging close to 100lbs and we have been catching them on the troll unless we find live bait which can be scarce this time a year.rnrnPoint blank and to wrap things up we are smoking them. If coming to Venice and getting on an offshore fishing trip has ever been something you want to do, or something that you normally do, you need to come now! Like this month now! It truly is on fire, but if you can’t swing it now that’s the great thing about Venice, the fishing is pretty much awesome year around! We have plenty of prime dates open and multiple boats to accommodate large or small groups. So get with me while the getting is getting so we can put you on that, literally, trip of a lifetime.rnrn Tight lines and thank you, rnrnCaptain Chandlerrnwww.ChampionFishingCharters.comrn318-730-4410

Venice offshore report
It's been awhile since I've posted so I figured now would be a good time since the winds blowing and I'm not fishing. Last trip I fished was Saterday, 4-12, the day before the front came through. The fishing was awesome! I had one guy come down that was eager to hammer on some yellow fins, and that we did! We had his limit of yellow fins in the boat, realeased two yellowfins and caught a few blacks to go along with them all in 2 1/2 hours of fishing! We headed in early with a full box of fish and one wore out fella! Fishing's great give me a call or check out the web site to book your trip now!rnrnThe fishing is the most consistent I've seen it this year, now is a great time to book a trip! Venice Louisiana Tuna
Well I usually start my reports complaining about the weather, however this winter coming into spring has been pretty cooperative. I have been able to get out for most of my trips and had very few cancellations due to weather. I fished last weekend, Feb. 28th and March 1st with some decent results.rnrnFriday I had a group of five that were eager to catch wahoo and tuna. So, we made our way down Red Pass with wahoo in our sights early. With only one strike that was believed to be a wahoo by 11 a.m. and countless wraps trolling around different rigs, I decieded to cut our losses and switch the game to tuna fishing. The spot I had in mind was 30 miles from where I was, with a couple of rigs between to hit for tuna or wahoo as well, which did yeild us a solid 30 lb yellowfin on the troll. We made a couple more wraps around the rig and with no takers moved along to our final destination. Before I apoached the spot all the way my sounder was lit up pretty good so I started my drift there. There was plenty of life; you pretty much watched every piece of chum get eaten by a king mackeral, shark, or bonita. We put a few kings and bonitas in the boat for some grade A chum and turned our focus to the tuna. First bait back, we hook up and land a big blackfin. That was easy! Send another bait back and this time its defently a yellowfin. With all the sharks in the water I knew we had to land this fish fast or he will get eaten so I put some heavy drag on him. As we are trying to burn this fish to the surface it was apparent that somthing was eating him, needless to say that fight didnt last much longer. We hooked up 6 or 7 more only landing one pre chewed yellowfin and another big blackin. It was getting late I was not liking the idea of feeding sharks these big beautiful tuna fish so we headed back to the barn with two yellowfin and two blackfin.rnrnSaterday I had a group of 4 that had never caught yellowfin before and couldn't wait to see what it was all about. I decided to start today where I ended the day before. The tuna were defently still there and there wasnt a shark in sight. I had a good feeling about the day from the get go because it was the 4th day after the front and the day before another front. That's two times I want to be fishing! It didn't take us long and we had 8 yellowfins in the boat. It was still early and the guys had more tuna than they needed so we decided to see what else we could get into. We found a nice rip or weed line and trolled it hoping to pick up a bonus wahoo. No strikes on the rip so we worked our way in with plans on having early cocktails. We did stop at one last rig and picked up a nice amberjack on a jig along with a few smaller ones we released.rnrnThe fishing is the most consistent I've seen it this year, now would be a great time to book a trip with Champion Charters. With numerous rigs extremity close in has held plenty of wahoo ranging from 40 to 60 lbs class, and in most cases double digit bites and hauls! The lump fishing by all means is full of life! Offshore/Inshore - Venice, La.
It's here in full swing, cold weather and the fish are biting! The offshore fishing has been difficult to get out due to the weather. However, if the weather does cooperate between fronts the fishing is awesome! The wahoo and tuna are in close and BIG! We are trolling the shallower platforms for wahoo with mostly diving baits. We are catching tuna chunking, live baiting, and fishing shrimp boats when they are out there. rn The inshore fishing has been incredible! The river is a beautiful green and the fish seem to be everywhere! The speckled trout have moved all the way in and are in deep holes waiting to ambush bait in the currents. The redfish and flounder have also been a big player on these inshore trips. So whether your looking to land that monster tuna or wahoo - or if filling a boat with specks and reds is more your thing we've gotcha covered.rn Offshore we are running a 36' Yellowfin with trip 350 Yamaha four strokes, and inshore a 24' Blue Wave with a 300 Yamaha four stroke. I can accommodate small or large groups. If you're looking for a trip to remember this is a great time to get down to Venice, LA! I am booked for the rest of November, but have plenty of days open in December. Venice, La Tuna
After a cancelation for Saterday and Sunday due to weather changing hour to hour, I picked up a last minute 3 day trip. The weather guessers forcasted rough seas, but were wrong again! Friday with a group of 6, I headed out at daylight. Our first stop was at a close in rig to catch hardtails for bait. We had 150 or so in the well within 30 mins and headed another 15 miles out to turn our hardtails into tuna fish. Soaked the baits and instantly had two yellowfin to the boat in the 40 lb range in no time. After a few boats showed up the bite slowed down but was still pretty steady the whole day. We ended Friday with 11 yellowfin and 3 blackfin. rn Saterday I had the same group from the day before. We decided to do a little exploring to see what my other 'holes' had to offer. The tuna bite was wide open at the first spot until about 9:30 then just died out of nowhere along with the current. Worked my way West hitting certain spots with same results, marking fish deep that had no interest in my baits. We waited it out for a few more hours with only one hookup which eventullay pulled hook. We ended Saterday with 5 yellows in the 60 to 70 lb range along with 4 blacks. rn Sunday I had a group of 4 that were eager to catch their first yellowfin. Needless to say we accomplished that with everybody catching one. Didn't attempt to fish the shrimp boats but am itching to. Some real monster yellowfin are coming off these boats. Also the federal red snapper season will open October 1st through the 14th. So, if your looking to have chance battling a 100 lb or better yellowfin along with a limit of huge red snapper I have several dates open, give us a call to book your charter today!rnrnCapt.
