Sweetwater Marina
Two great days of fishing out of Sweetwater Marina. Capt. Jack took out his good buddy Ricky Papania. They have been fishing together for over 26 years. They’ve been rabbit hunting, deer hunting, duck hunting, alligator hunting, nutria hunting, catching frogs, you name it they did it. He is one of Captain Jack’s real friends! Yesterday they fished with the kids! Capt. Jack worked with the boys and Mr. Ricky worked with his daughter, Sophia. They ended up with 72 beautiful speckled trout and 6 sheephead. When Capt. Jack and Mr. Ricky went out today, they came in with 50 trout and 2 sheephead; they made it back in to the marina at around 10 am. Anyways, seems the fishing is getting way better in Delacroix. The water clarity seems to be getting a good bit better, however the fish are still biting in this dirty water. All jokes aside; NO LIVE SHRIMP, no fish! Technique: catching the fish requires popping every 5 seconds! Throwing out a few handfuls of smashed, dead shrimp seems to be getting them going even better. Weather report: it doesn’t look good for the next couple of days, however you might be able to get in a quick trip in the morning! The water is warming up and it’s getting wayyyyy better. So, can’t wait to see you here at Sweetwater Marina. AND DON’T FORGET to pick up some of our beautiful, live shrimp! NOTE: we just had 2 cancellations for this weekend! So, don’t wait around, call and book a room before they get booked up! The weather for the weekend looks great, so come stay here at Sweetwater and make your fishing trip as convenient as possible. rnrnAnd don’t forget we are the second launch in Delacroix. We will help launch your boat, give as much advice on how to make your fishing trip the best it can possibly be, load you up with live bait and any tackle you desire, we provide our services for fish cleaning or you can use our fish cleaning tables for all the do-it-yourselfers, we can fuel you up with some of our non-ethanol gas and DO NOT FORGET to pick up a Sweetwater Shirt or Hoody. Our shirts and Hoody’s are $25 each, I would say that’s pretty cheap to represent the best marina around. We also have lodging and charters available (if you are interested, just give us a call at 504-342-2368). So head on over to Sweetwater Marina, and let the friendliest employees set you up on the right path for a spectacular fishing adventure!rnLODGING INFORMATION: Our one bedroom lodges sleep up to 6 guest; it includes a galley kitchen (microwave, refrigerator, toaster oven, griddle, bbq pit, dining area, living room area (with 2 full sized sofas’, one being a sofa sleeper), free cable and Wi-Fi, and a full bathroom. rnCHARTER INFORMATION: The charters run up to $750.00 for up to 4 anglers for a full day. On the charter, we provide equipment, bait, licenses, if necessary, fish cleaning and the packaging of the fish. The only thing you need to bring is your food, drinks, sunglasses, sunscreen and an empty ice chest to bring home your catch. Our captains specialize in in-shore fishing; usually, the catch consists mostly of Speckled Trout, Reds, and Bass.rnFor more information on lodging and charters or to make reservations, please call us at 504-342-2368. A small deposit will hold your reservation. So, come on down to the second launch in Delacroix, Sweetwater Marina, and let Capt. Jack, Mr. Ronnie, Tony, and Jesse put you in the water and put you on the fish. Anything we can do to help make your trip fun, successful and safe, just ask! Capt. Jack fished with Bill Dillion and his brother John Dillion and son Jack Dillion. They had a great day. They caught 73 trout, 5 reds and 10 sheep head. Overall, the fishing was tough until the tide started moving. Once the tide started moving, fishing got way better. All Capt. Jack’s fish today was caught on beautiful Sweetwater live shrimp, which we have plenty of. Tomorrow’s fishing should be better due to the tide. There should be more range tomorrow with the tide. So, if you don’t want to go to the goofy parades take the kids out fishing. Water has gotten really clean in lots of great spots in the interior of Delacroix. If you want to go fishing and have nothing to do tomorrow, come on down to Sweetwater Marina with this great, beautiful weather we are about to have the fishing is only going to get better. Can’t wait to see you here at Sweetwater Marina. rnNOTES:rn-WE DO HAVE LODGING AVAILABLE EXCEPT FOR SUNDAY AND THE REST OF THE WEEK. This is a quick report from yesterday and today’s action down here in Delacroix. Yesterday, the water was extremely, extremely low. However, we managed to launch around 15 boats. There wasn’t much success. Yesterday, one angler had 25 trout; he was alone and fishing by the Spider. The water wasn’t as low today as it was yesterday morning. Today we launched about the same amount of boats, however anglers seemed to be more successful. As far as tomorrow, the weather should be nice. There should be low winds with the tide coming up. Prior to the last weather change, they were catching trout on the interior of Delacroix at all the normal hotspots. The water has cleared up considerably and getting better every day, and the river is going down. If you are ready to get on to some good action, come on down to Sweetwater, where the fishing is getting better each day. As soon as the weather gets stable for a couple of days, the fishing goes back to being great again. So, tomorrow seems promising for greater action. We can’t wait to see you here at Sweetwater Marina, where we have plenty of beautiful live shrimp for everyone. You don’ have to launch here to purchase live bait. So, see yall tomorrow for what seems like a great day to be on the water!rnNOTES:rn-WE DO HAVE LODGING AVAILABLE EXCEPT FOR FRIDAY THE 17TH AND SATURDAY THE 18TH. More great news, lots of fish caught today at Sweetwater! All the same places that we have been reporting are still hot! One new HOTSPOT: Little Lake! We aren’t saying that the action out in Little Lake is like years prior, but there is a little action happening! Within this past week there has been around 4 to 5 limits of speckled trout come out of Little Lake! The fishing has really gotten way better in the last week and a half due to the water clarity! So, Captain Jack is thinking there should be a lot of speckled trout on the interior! Once the water gets a little clearer, fishing should REALLY pick up again! You have a good window of opportunity tomorrow until around 3pm, when the weather will set it. However, around Thursday the fishing should definitely be back on track and running good for a spectacular weekend of fishing! Although, we aren’t trying to say that Wednesday you won’t be able to catch some fish! Plenty, plenty of live shrimp here at Sweetwater! If you launch here or not, we will still sell you live shrimp! Lodging availability: We have rooms available during the week along with one opening left for this weekend! So, give us a call at 504-342-2368, if you’re interested! rnNOTES:rn-WE DO HAVE LODGING AVAILABLE THIS WEEKEND. Fishing has really picked up! We heard some reports from some customers fishing in Forehorse that did exceptionally well but many limits coming from Skippy today! During the week, the hotspots seemed to be poto Caballo, Point Fienne and Lake Robin; nobody reported fishing from those areas today, however I think it's worth a shot to see if those spots are still HOT, HOT, HOT! The weekend weather is looking good, so don't be afraid to make the trip over to Sweetwater Marina and catch your limit! REMINDER: Don't go out without what makes the fish bite and that's LIVE SHRIMP, which just in case you were wondering, Sweetwater is fully stocked and ready to fill up your bait wells! Believe it or not, the fishing in Delacroix has gotten tremendously better. Capt. Jack fished with C.T. William for the big fish report on Thursday night. They caught around 15 or so trout before the weather set in, and when we say set in, it SET IN! But some people fished Point Fienne yesterday and had some nice limits of speckled trout. Capt. Jack and C.T. fished in Lake Robin then in Forehorse for around 15 minutes and as soon as the fish started to bite they had to head in due to the weather. The good news is: FINALLY, FINALLY, FINALLY we are going to have a nice weekend for fishing! This weekend will probably be one of the best in the last month. So….don’t waste any more time; head on over to Sweetwater Marina, the marina that loves their customers, and let our employees get your fishing trip started successfully. Today the afternoon fishing seemed to be better than the morning fishing! A lot of trout came in from Forehorse Lake late this afternoon. The last few days the hottest area was Lake Robin, but today it wasn’t fishable because of the wind direction but tomorrow that won’t be a problem! Some advice for tomorrow is start off in Lake Robin, Forehorse, and Poto Caballo; the winds will finally be down, and we have plenty of beautiful live shrimp! Also, there were a few reports from Lake Batola and Point Fienne. Tomorrow should be a great day with beautiful skies and lighter winds. Even better news, the Superbowl will be late tomorrow evening, so come tomorrow morning load up your ice chest, clean your fish here on our fish cleaning tables or get one of our employees to clean them for you and take them home and fry them up while watching the game! Pretty decent day of fishing. I wish I could report better than decent, but, overall, the best fishing seemed to be in Point Fienne, Forehorse Lake, Poto Cabalo and the Lake Robin side. I wish we could write things about Little Lake and Grand Lake, but it’s just not happening yet. People are calling like crazy asking about those two areas. Of course, we would love to lie about it, but that isn’t how we roll here at Sweetwater Marina. LIVE SHRIMP SITUATION: We have plenty of live shrimp! If you are going to the Hopdale/ Shellbeach area and they are out of live shrimp, we sell to EVERYBODY. So, come get some of our BEAUTIFUL live shrimp; we are only 15 minutes past the fork of the road towards Delacroix! Great day for Capt. Jack this morning, did a little rabbit hunting. We ended up shooting 29 nice bunnies. Hunted with some great rabbit dogs and it brought back a lot of old memories. Got some good shooting in, overall a great day. As far as the fishing out of the marina today, some people took Capt. Jack on his tip of fishing out of the Lake Robin area and we are watching them right now clean 75 beautiful speckled trout. Yes I am in the bait business, so as much as I hate to say it they did catch them all on 3 inch Cocahoe swim bait made by H &H in a chartreuse color. Other customers fished in Forehorse; they all had scattered numbers. The most fish brought in from Forehorse was 19. Point Fienne and the interior of Delacroix still seems to be the hot but overall Lake Robin is the Hottest. Not sure about the weather the next few days; I don’t think that it will be out of control just a bit cooler. The water level is almost back to normal, the river syphon has slowed down. Wow, Wow, Wow how horrible has it been! Thanks to our great government officials, who are pouring in all of this fresh water that is destroying all our wetlands and our great trout fisheries. All winter long we have been getting it from the Mardi Gras cut, south of Delacroix, probably about twelve miles from the marina. There are NO longer any speckled trout in Oak River this year. Now we have all of this fresh water coming in from the Big Mar diversion. Anyway, there is some good news! Trout fishing has picked up in the last couple of days. Hotspots are Pointe Fienne area, Poto Caballo and Capt. Jack went out in the Lake Robin area for a couple of hours and caught 25-30 keepers and 25-30 throwbacks. Overall, I would say the little fishing trip was pretty good. All the fish were caught using live shrimp; only around three were caught using plastic. If you are planning to fish this weekend, the water is looking better; it has come up tremendously and even cleared up a decent amount. A little more good news, they slowed down the outflow of the fresh water diversion to just a little trickle. If you need live shrimp this weekend and you are fishing the Hopedale/ Shellbeach area and they are out give us a call at 504-342-2368, we sell them to anybody. So, come on over to Sweetwater; we have been staying fully supplied with live shrimp. Just call before you come. Saturdays charter, Capt. Jack went out and caught 5 reds, 4 black drum, 39 sheephead and 2 speckled trout. They went on a meat run..Capt. Jack tried to back out the charter due to the weather conditions, but they insisted on going and had a blast catching an assortment of fish. Also, we have a few rooms available this weekend, so don’t pass up the opportunity to conveniently stay right across the street from the marina and plus your boat launches will be free. So, if you are ready to get your fish on, come on down to Sweetwater Marina and let us get you started. We can’t wait to see you.rnAnd don’t forget we are the second launch in Delacroix. Today's fishing report over at Sweetwater: we launched about 12 to 15 boats today; around three quarters caught fish. One angler had a limit of bass, trout and reds plus a couple of drum. One customer caught 88 in Forehorse and many others caught in Forehorse as well. One customer went to Point Fienne Bay and caught 45 trout, one 27 inch red and another 25 to 30 reds in the same spot that were around 15 to 15.5 inches. Yesterday, we only launched 3-4 boats and it was kind of windy so not much success. Not sure about the weather for tomorrow; only god knows if it's gonna come late, early, or what. Who knows? We can only tell as much as the radar shows; all we can do is hope, pray and wish as much as we can for the weather to turn out to be in our favor. So, everyone start praying and head on over to Sweetwater Marina and let us get you started for what could be a spectacular fishing trip. All you can do is try. Us over at Sweetwater Marina will be hoping, wishing and praying with you for the weather to stay in our customers favor and that they reel in plenty of fish to full up their ice chest. We think the weather for Sunday should be better than tomorrow. Our shrimp situation is we have a few shrimp for tomorrow and we are supposed to be getting some delivered tonight but we aren't 100 percent on that. So, if you have the opportunity to buy shrimp on the way down, we would recommend that for tomorrow. We can't wait to see you down at Sweetwater Marina!rnrnAnd don’t forget we are the second launch in Delacroix. Come on down to Sweetwater Marina. The fishing yesterday was pretty decent and today was even better. Half limits to limits came in with most of the guys out fishing. Also, a good bit of redfish were caught today by some of our customers. Looks like the bad weather is going to set in at around 3pm tomorrow, so it should be a good day of fishing up until 3pm. The hot spots haven’t changed; the same areas we have been calling hotspots are still HOT! So, if you want to have a good day of fishing come on down; it seems like fishing is back to being pretty spectacular. If you want to make a decent fishing trip into a great one, pick up so live shrimp. Live shrimp seem to be what they are catching with and we have plenty. rnrnAnd don’t forget we are the second launch in Delacroix. Sorry about no report yesterday, alot of people were aggravated we didn't write a report. Fishing today and yesterday wasn't nearly as good as Thursday and Friday. However, alot of people still came in with smiles. Overall, the fishing was pretty decent today. Forehorse seems to be the best area along with Bay Shallow, Lake John, Round lake and Grandville bay. But Forehorse is definitely the best. Our shrimp situation is captain Jack Is on his way right now to Burus, LA at 7:45pm to pick up a few thousand shrimp. So, the best thing to do is call before you come early in the morning to make sure we have some live bait. We are supposed to be getting a load of shrimp in the morning, but we aren't 100 percent sure. The fog situation this morning was NONE, it was unbelievable. Saturday there was only 450 ft of visibility, but tomorrow we should be good. Crossed the ferry and there was no fog. So if you got the day off tomorrow for the holiday, come on down to Sweetwater. If you want to spend the day driving your boat threw the beautiful Marsh, you should come on down before its too late and there's none left. It's not always about catching, sometimes just taking in the view, the sun rising and setting, and taking in the way everything looks before it all changes can make a day spent out on the water worth while. So come fish in Saint Bernard parish marshes and enjoy some of the finest fishing left in our great state. And don't forget to launch at Sweetwater Marina, the best marina around. rnrnAnd don’t forget we are the second launch in Delacroix. Some GREAT fishing out of Delacroix today! Overall, on a scale from 1 to 10, today was at least an 8.5! People were coming in with limits of trout and reds. Many bass were brought in as well. It seems like today was a great day for fishing in general. Live shrimp was definitely the key to a lot of customers success! A lot of people who listened about coming after 11am and fishing until dark came in with lots of limits of trout this evening. The hot spots remain the same as yesterday: Lake Fausan, the twin pipeline where it meets Forehorse Lake on the north side, Forehorse Lake along the North bank, Lake John region, Petain Lagoon, Bay Shallow and Lake Amadee. Some additional hotspots are Lake Batola and Point Fienne. Also a group of fishermen said they caught 43 trout, 9 Bass and 4 Reds in Spanish Lake today. So, like we say to you every evening, head on over to Sweetwater Marina and let us set you up with some beautiful live shrimp, help you get your boat launched at our dock and give any advice we can to make your fishing trip as spectacular as it can be!! Capt. Jack made a quick fishing trip with his neighbor and got back in at about 11:30am with 37 nice trout, 7 bass and one sheephead. But for the real good news, lots of customers came in saying they caught lots of beautiful speckled trout and some limits. Yesterday evening after the report was posted some customers came in with plenty of fish. With the full moon the fish will be biting from 11am until the full moon. The hot spots today seemed to have been Lake Fausan, the twin pipeline where it meets Forehorse Lake on the north side, Forehorse Lake along the North bank, Lake John region, Petain Lagoon, Bay Shallow and Lake Amadee. Plenty of people are calling and looking for lodging for Friday, January 13th and Saturday, January 14th, unfortunately we are all booked up. We do have two rooms available for Sunday, for anybody looking to come fishing on Monday when it’s less crowded. However, we can’t wait to see you at the marina and get you ready for an exciting fishing trip. Don’t forget your live bait, it’ll definitely help!
