Lynn Terry of Texas caught this tagged redfish near Bay St. Louis, but wasn't registered in the Coastal Conservation Association's STAR Tournament. It would have been worth a new ATV had she registered before catching the fish.

Mississippi STAR redfish caught, but ...

The first tagged redfish caught in the Mississippi Division of the Coastal Conservation Association’s STAR Tournament was worth, well, only the excitement of the catch and dinner at the table.

Bishop has Classic finish on Barnett

Gene Bishop is going to the 2016 Bassmaster Classic.

“Man, I’m just starting to realize what a big deal this is — I am going to the Classic,” he said, shortly after clinching the B.A.S.S. Central Open on Barnett Reservoir Saturday. “I can’t believe it.

    Bishop takes over Open lead

Even Gene Bishop couldn’t believe the bag of bass he caught in Friday’s second round of the Bassmaster Central Open on Barnett Reservoir, but he figures to ponder on it overnight.

Arkansas Bassmaster Elite Series pro Mike McClelland goes into the second day of the Central Open leading the pack after bringing more than 23 pounds of bass to the weigh-in today.

McClelland takes Day 1 lead at Barnett Reservoir Central Open

No local fisherman has ever won a Bass Anglers Sportsman Society tournament on Barnett Reservoir, but it could happen this week even though an Arkansas pro took a big lead in Thursday’s opening round of the B.A.S.S. Central Open.

“It is starting to feel like home waters,” said Mike McClelland, whose five-fish limit of 23 pounds, 5 ounces gave him a 15-ounce leader over fellow Arkansan Kevin Short.

Stephen Browning worked shallow structure in the October 2013 B.A.S.S. Central Open on Barnett Reservoir and finished second, catching the biggest one-day limit of 16 pounds the final day. If he can unlock a shallow pattern in March, he could win the B.A.S.S. Central Open March 12-14 on The Rez.

    Warm-up should help B.A.S.S. anglers

A 53-degree change in less than 18 hours with sleet, ice and snow to boot had a lot of fishermen on Barnett Reservoir wondering just how it would affect next week’s B.A.S.S. Central Open tournament.

Reigning B.A.S.S. Angler of the Year Greg Hackney of Gonzalez, La., remains the biggest name on the latest entrants to the B.A.S.S. Bass Pro Shops Central Open March 12-14 at Barnett Reservoir.

Last Barnett winner not on BASS’ list

Next week’s Bassmaster Bass Pro Shops Central Open on Barnett Reservoir will not include the angler who won the last time B.A.S.S. brought a tournament to the lake in 2013, but it could very well have the reigning Angler of the Year.

The final round of the 2015 Bassmaster Classic promises to be exciting, with less than 4 pounds separating the top 10 anglers.

Going into the finale, former Classic champion Takahiro Omori moved into possession of the lead after weighing in 16 pounds, 11 ounces today to give him a two-day total of 31-11. But that's only 2 ounces ahead of Day 2 leader Dean Rojas.

Cliff Pace rallied on Day 2 of the 2015 Bassmaster Classic, but it wasn't enough to put him into the Top 25 that fishes the final day of the championship event.

Tough second day ends Bassmaster Classic for Mississippi anglers

For two of the three Bassmaster Classic qualifiers from Mississippi, the second day of the event on South Carolina’s Lake Hartwell was a big improvement. For the third, well, it was an experience.

Unfortunately, none of the Magnolia anglers made the top 25 cut, so their Classic is over.

Dean Rojas overcame brutally cold weather to take the Day 1 lead of the 2015 Bassmaster Classic with 21 pounds, 2 ounces.

Rojas takes early Bassmaster Classic lead

The 2015 Bassmaster Classic kicked off this morning with tempeatures hovering at about 10 degrees at Lake Hartwell, officially making it the coldest B.A.S.S. championship on record.

Hattiesburg's Teb Jones is the highest-ranking Mississippi angler after the first day of the 2015 Bassmaster Classic that began today on Lake Hartwell.

Mississippi anglers struggle during first day of 2015 Classic

It took three bass pros from Mississippi to come up with one five-fish limit in today's first round of the Bassmaster Classic on South Carolina’s Lake Hartwell. Even more unfortunate? Only two of them contributed.

B.A.S.S. Nation qualifier Teb Jones of Hattiesburg had the best day of the Magnolia State’s contingent with three bass that weighed 7 pounds, 9 ounces, putting him in 33rd place in the three-day tournament.

Paul Elias is one of three Mississippi anglers who will face off against the top anglers in the nation — and frigid temperatures — when the 2015 Bassmaster Classic kicks off.

Elias, Pace, Jones prepare for frigid Bassmaster Classic

Paul Elias feels like he’s found the fountain of youth, Teb Jones doesn’t know what to make of all the snow and ice, and Cliff Pace is just glad to be in Greenville, S.C., for the 2015 Bassmaster Classic that opens tomorrow on Lake Hartwell.

That pretty well sums up the feelings of the three-man contingent from Mississippi that will head out in search of a big chunk of the $1.05 million purse over the next three days.
