The Biloxi Marsh will be loaded with redfish this month. Oil spill reduces competition for fish

Currently, no one knows what effect the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico will have on the fishery. But fishermen certainly will have to adapt to the changes, study maps and make test runs to new waters, if they’ll continue to fish the Gulf of Mexico this summer.

In June, anglers can catch the biggest trout of the year off Mississippi’s Gulf Coast, according to Capt. Kyle Jarreau, who guides out of Bay St. Louis and fishes the marsh.

Capt. Mike Moore of Strictly Business Fishing Charters in Biloxi wants to provide an opportunity for anglers to go fishing any way they want on his Strictly Business, a 38-foot Bertram sport-fishing boat for offshore fishing, and the Strictly Too, a 23-foot open fisherman for inshore fishing.

Many Mississippi Gulf Coast anglers consider a temperature gauge the best tool for catching fish during April. Capt. “Pappy” Kenney believes in fishing by the moon. For instance, during the full moon in June and on three days of either side of the full moon, Kenney caught plenty of big trout.
