New forum, classified sections opened

MS-Sportsman.com introduces its new, free forum and classified sections to make it even easier to share hunting and fishing experiences, and discuss the issues that matter to us sportsmen.

“Upgrading to a forum was already in the works, but with the announced closure of the MDWFP user forums we worked through the weekend to rush the project to completion,” MS-Sportsman.com’s Andy Crawford said Monday (March 1). “We wanted those users from the agency site now looking for a new online home to find a format with which they were comfortable.”

The new forum, accessed through the “Forum” link in the top nav bar and the yellow “New Hunting & Fishing Forum” navigation box on the front page, includes 26 individual forums in six categories.

Hunters can choose from eight subcategories, while anglers can discuss their days on the water in seven individual forums. Other categories include “Technical” (two forums), “General” (five forums), “Sports” (two forums) and “Politics” (two forums).

The free classified section is accessed through the “Classified” button on the top of the page, and it runs much like the old system.

“Classified ads work, and this system will allow our users to find deals or sell their old equipment easily,” Crawford said. “And it’s free to non-commercial users.”

The forum is a beta test, so anyone encountering problems is asked to email Andy Crawford at mcrawford29@cox.net so the glitches can be addressed.

Also, members of the old MS-Sportsman.com bulletin board will be able to log in as normal about mid-day on Wednesday (March 3).

“Our staff is working right now to pull all our existing users into the system,” Crawford said. “Those members are important to us, so we’ll get you all up and running just as soon as possible.”

While the new forum is a quantum leap forward for the site, the MS-Sportsman.com technical crew is busy planning even more user-friendly functions.

“Work continues to add even more functionality to the forum, including personal messaging, the ability to add photos in thread comments and the html linking,” Crawford explained. “Those additions are expected to be completed by the end of the month, so stay tuned.

“We look forward to seeing the forum and classified sections become THE place for Mississippi sportsman.”
