State offers deer seminars

Food plot management is just one of the many topics to be covered by the seminars.

Successful deer hunters are those who constantly seek to learn more about their quarry.

There may be no better way to do that than to attend one of two seminars offered by the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks and Mississippi State University.

The two-day courses, titled Managing White-Tailed Deer, include discussions on Management Concepts on Day 1 and Management Applications on Day 2.

The courses are offered June 1-2 in Vicksburg and July 13-14 at Mississippi State University.

The Management Concepts course on Day 1 includes discussions on camera survey setup, deer nutrition, food plots, deer habitat, deer ecology, harvest management and hunter recruitment.

Day 2’s Management Applications will focus on camera survey picture analysis, food plot management, science of harvesting deer, scoring antlers, aging deer and butchering and meat handling.

Fee for the course is $95 for one day, and $180 for both days. Lunch, materials and T-shirt or cap are provided.
