Rene Delaune closed the book on this 171-inch, 13-point (main frame 10) on Nov. 29 in Claiborne County.
“My dad, Rene Delaune, closed the book on a 171-inch 13-point (main frame 10) earlier this year in Claiborne County. The deer named Mohawk, due to his narrow, yet tall set of horns, had our entire club (and what seemed to be the whole county) after him for 4 years. This deer was well known by all of the neighboring properties. Knowing some of the hunters in the neighboring properties, we were able to share intel and he was known to travel very very far in a short of amount of time. A couple of near misses by other hunters and missing him by a day or two over the last two years, it all finally came together on the evening of Nov. 29. We believe he was 7-8 years old. A lot of history with this buck and it was fun watching this deer grow over the years and have the opportunity to harvest him on our property.”
