Amberjack record broken

Don Wheeler of Laurel broke a Mississippi recreational saltwater conventional tackle record with a greater amberjack weighing 126 pounds.

DMR certifies Laurel man’s 126-pounder

Add Don Wheeler’s name to Mississippi’s saltwater fishing records.

The Laurel angler’s greater amberjack caught on March 22 was certified by Department of Marine Resources biologists at 126 pounds, beating the existing state record of 124.4 pounds caught in 2012.

The Mississippi Commission on Marine Resources officially accepted Wheeler’s record at its monthly meeting last week.
