CCA STAR kicks off

Catch one of the specially tagged STAR redfish, and you could win a Polaris 570 Ranger.

$500,000 up for grabs in annual saltwater tournament

The CCA Louisiana Statewide Tournament and Angler’s Rodeo begins on May 23 and includes the waters along the Mississippi Coast.

The STAR, which includes more than $500,000 in prizes, is open to all anglers and lasts through Sept. 7.

Participants must be CCA members, and the cost of the STAR is $30. And participating anglers are eligible for all Mississippi and Louisiana divisions.

A special Mississippi Tagged Redfish Division has been added to the tournament this year, with 25 specially tagged redfish to be released across the state.

The first two registered anglers to catch one of these redfish will take home Polaris 570 Rangers.

Last year eight of the 50 tagged redfish released as part of the Louisiana contest were caught, with one lucky angler winning a brand-new Chevy Silverado.

STAR participants also can compete in Speckled Trout Division, in which the registered angler who enters the heaviest speckled trout caught in Mississippi waters will win $1,000, while second- and third-place finishers each win $500.

STAR also has extended its offshore boundaries to include the entire coast of Mississippi to the Alabama state line, with $5,000 tackle packages offered in the Mangrove Snapper, Dorado, Lemonfish and Red Snapper divisions.

“Between the Speckled Trout Division, the Tagged Redfish Division and the numerous offshore divisions, we hope to give anglers in Mississippi something to shoot for every time they get on the water,” STAR Chairman Nelson Roth said.

Sign up for STAR by dialing 877-4CCASTAR (877-422-2782),

But you must be registered before catching and entering a fish.
