Fourth of July is Free Saltwater Sportfishing Day in Mississippi

Mississippi anglers will be able to fish in saltwaters without a license on Saturday, July 4.

The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources wants to remind anglers that Saturday, July 4, is designated as “Free Saltwater Sportfishing Day” on the Coast. Any person may sport fish in saltwaters, which are waters south of Interstate 10, without a license.

However, all size and possession limits remain in effect.

Fishermen also are reminded that the recreational fishing season for Gag (Mycteroperca microlepis) opened in Mississippi territorial waters on July 1, 2015.
