The Chunky River Trading Post and Campground offers basic supplies, bait and fishing tackle. Canoe and kayak rentals are best reserved in advance.

Kayaks and canoes are the recommended craft for fishing the Chunky River, but short flat-bottomed boats also work.

It’s important to note that, depending on the river level β€” especially in the upper end near the town of Chunky β€” the rapids can be extremely shallow. Even for a kayak.

Chunky River Canoe and Kayak Rentals (601-616-1616 ) is located at the Chunky River Trading Post on Highway 80 in Chunky. They offer rentals and pickup services when arranged in advance.

Float trips range from all day to just a couple of hours, with lengths of 2.2, 6 and 12 miles.

The Trading Post (601-480-3045 )operates a campground offering electrical and water hookups, and a store with basics that include tackle, ice and live bait in the form of worms and crickets.

Campers are wise to bring the items they anticipate needing, as the store has a limited inventory.
