Trout in transition months

Each fall and spring, speckled trout can be found making a major transition all along the Gulf Coast. Capt. Charlie Thomason has spent many years following trout through this transitional period and he has some key concepts that he uses during this time to put more trout in the boat.

During transitional periods Thomason likes to start the morning off with a topwater bait. This allows him to cover long stretches of water to locate fish. Once he locates fish using the topwater, he will typically switch over to a plastic cocahoe bait rigged under a Versamaxx Cork. Fishing the transition may take a lot of moving around, but if you follow Capt. Charlie’s tips in this video, you will certainly have more opportunities for success.
