Spotted seatrout seminar to be held in Biloxi

Speckled trout management, culture and fishing tips to be covered during event, Mississippi Department of Marine Resources says.

Speckled trout management and fishing tips are two of the topics on the schedule of a free speckled trout seminar to be held Nov. 17 in Biloxi, the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources announced today.

The seminar will take place between 4 and 6 p.m. in the first-floor meeting room at the Bolton Building at 1141 Bayview Ave.

The keynote speaker, Jim Franks of the University of  Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast Research Lab will speak on “Habitat & Spawning for Spotted Seatrout.”

Also slated for discussion are:

• “Spotted Seatrout Assessment and Management” – by MDMR’s Finfish Bureau Director Buck Buchanan and Read Hendon of the GCRL
• “Spotted Seatrout Culture” – Reginald Blaylock of the GCRL
• “Spotted Seatrout Tricks of the Trade” – Capt. Sonny Schindler of Shore Thing Charters

The seminar is part of a series aimed at enhancing familiarity between interested groups and increasing awareness of the programs, needs and opportunities that are relevant to marine research in Mississippi waters.

All interested parties are welcome to attend and refreshments will be served.
