Heath Powell of Vancleave set the state record for Red Lionfish (Pterois volitans), also using a spear, with a fish weighing 1 pound, 15.04 ounces. The state record for Silver Perch (Bairdiella chrysoura) was set by Donald L. Bosarge II of Gautier with a fish weighing 5.12 ounces.
Charlie Russell, 9, of Pascagoula set the youth state record for Tripletail (Lobotes surinamensis) using conventional tackle with a fish weighing 19 pounds, 8 ounces.
“Many new fish records have been set this summer and our agency enjoys seeing the various species being caught in our waters,” said Mississippi Department of Marine Resources Executive Director Joe Spraggins. “Congratulations to all our state record holders for a job well done.”
