Fishermen will find a lot to like about with the 227 Xtreme Tournament Series bay boat from Nautic Star in Amory, Miss. This is the newest addition to Nautic Star’s XTS series; it offers standard features like forward and aft fishing decks, 3-across jump seats aft, a deluxe leaning post, a dash big enough for 12-inch electronics, and an optional console large enough for a head.
The design is well thought-out, with every inch of space being utilized. Fishability is exceptional, with large casting decks, forward and aft livewell/baitwells, a 30-gallon insulated fish box, cast-net storage, recessed rod storage, easy access tackle storage and more. There is storage for 28 rods — 10 can be below deck in port and starboard locking rod lockers. Fishermen will find the boat gives them everything on the water, whether seeking a fish dinner or the heaviest bag in a tournament.
The 227 XTS features the STAR Performance System, including shallow-water draft for skinny water fishing, two tournament livewells and rod storage up to 28 rods. Acceleration created by planing pods and an air-assist chine, and ride comfort, utilizing the sharp-entry Vee hull forward.
Nothing is left out in the design and construction of the 227 XTS. Its heart is a fiberglass stringer system that is totally wood free. The air-assist chine and aft planing pods get it on plane quickly, improve performance and boost fuel economy. In tests with a Yamaha 250, it ran more than 60 MPH and got a little better than 2.5 MPG. The ride is soft and dry, as the sharp bow entry cuts through waves and chop.
Fishermen need to keep bait alive and frisky, and tournament fishermen need to keep their catch alive. The 227 XTS has two livewells to do this right. The forward livewell is a little smaller and works well to keep bait active and ready to be eaten with an 800 GPH aerator pump. The aft livewell is rigged to be the release well. It comes with an 800 GPH aerator pump, plus a 500 GPH recirculation pump and a Max Air System. It will keep fish alive and healthy for weighing in.
The 227 XTS has what it takes to get to and from the fish quickly and comfortably. Once on location, it fishes well, with the room of many larger boats and the draft of many smaller boats.
