Fish Haven 9, Fish Haven 14 will be release sites for young ling.
About 8,000 juvenile cobia will be released this week on two artificial reefs off the Mississippi Coast, the Department of Marine Resources announced yesterday (Dec. 6). The cobia release is part of a partnership between MDMR, Aqua Green, Mississippi State University and the University of Southern Mississippi’s Gulf Coast Research Laboratory.
Aqua Green, a privately owned aquaculture facility in Stone County, reared the cobia. Each fish measured between 6 and 8 inches long, and ranges in size from .1 to .13 pounds.
The cobia release is scheduled (subject to weather) for tomorrow (Dec. 9) and Friday (Dec. 10) on Fish Haven 9 north of East Ship Island and Fish Haven 14 southeast of East Ship Island.
