Three saltwater state-record fish certified

Ronnie McMillan of Lucedale topped the Mississippi recreational saltwater conventional-tackle fishing record book with this red grouper weighing 20 pounds, 1.28 ounces.

Fishing record books expanded with red grouper, lemon shark and Gulf kingfish, MDMR says.

Three state saltwater fish records were certified by the Commission on Marine Resources during it’s meeting last week, the agency reported.

The records include conventional-fishing listings for red grouper and lemon shark, along with a fly-fishing record for Gulf kingfish, the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources said.

Ronnie McMillan of Lucedale broke the state conventional red grouper record  with a 20-pound, 1.28-ounce fish caught on July 7, the MDMR reported.

Pass Christian’s John Mayne Jr. set the state conventional record for lemon shark when he landed an 83-pound, 2-ounce specimen June 30.

Don Abrams of Ocean Springs set the state fly-fishing record for Gulf kingfish with a 1-pound, 4.7-ounce fish landed July 25.
