What’s that limit? Fish Rules app knows

The Fish Rules app, available on most smart phones, can help you identify gamefish species, their creel limits and size regulations in the state where you’re fishing.

Keep guide to local fish regs on your phone

Anglers who fish often enough have often memorized the creel limits and size minimums for the species they target most often. It’s tough to find an inshore angler in Mississippi who doesn’t know their state’s regulations on flounder, speckled trout, black drum and redfish. But what happens when they catch another fish they rarely see?

Keeping a regulations book onboard is probably not a bad idea, but they’re not going to last in such a wet environment unless you’ve got them in a waterproof case of some sort, and once you open them with fish slime, saltwater and bait slime on your hands, their days of readability are limited.

Luckily for anglers, the state agencies are keeping up with technology that allows us to enjoy our time on the water, and we’re able to do things like buy a fishing license with our smart phones. This is a huge time saver and can be done at any time of day.

But that’s not all we can do with our smart phones.

The Fish Rules application allows anglers to have their state’s regulations on hand, so whenever you’ve got a question about a certain species, all you have to do is check the app, which goes further than just telling you the regulations; It can help you out when you’re having trouble identifying a fish.

Is that a speckled trout or a weakfish? A black drum or a sheepshead? The fish ID section of the app shows crisp, color illustrations and photos and includes identification clues to help you figure out your catch.

The Fish Rules app even recognizes your location is, so it knows which regulations to show you. It’s available on Android and iPhone formats and can be downloaded straight from your phone’s app store or on the web at https://fishrulesapp.com.
