The first Southern Belle Shootout, a one-day women’s only fishing tournament, will be held this Saturday (Aug. 9) in Biloxi.

Southern Belle Shootout is Saturday in Biloxi

Coastal Conservation Association Mississippi is looking for the state’s best female anglers, and is offering them a chance to prove their talents in a one-day women’s only tournament.

The CCA’s first Southern Belle Shootout will be held Saturday (Aug. 9), headquartered at Wahoo’s at the Palace Casino in Biloxi.

“Let the men drive the boat, or leave them at home,” said Johnny Marquez, executive director of CCA Mississippi. “The men can help, but this tournament is all about the women catching the fish.”

Marquez said the tournament is open to teams of two to four women, with competition in four divisions:

* Heaviest trout.

* Heaviest slot red (18-30 inches).

* Heaviest flounder.

* Heaviest inshore slam — one trout, one slot red and one flounder.

The entry fee is $20 per woman, and a captain’s meeting is scheduled for 5-8 p.m. at Wahoo’s. Fishing will be allowed between 5:30 a.m. and the closing of the scales at 6 p.m.

Fishermen can enter at Bay Marina, the Tackle Box, Sports Unlimited, Biloxi Boardwalk Bait and Tackle and at Gorenflo’s Bait Shop, or online at ccamississippi.org/upcoming-events/southern-belle-shootout.html.
