Jackson club site of state sporting clays championship

The Mississippi National Sporting Clays Association state championship will be held Thursday through Sunday, Aug. 4-7, at the Providence Hill Farm near Jackson.

Providence Hill expecting over 300 shooters this week for NSCA event

Mississippi’s 2016 National Sporting Clays Association (NCSA) State Championship will be held Aug. 4-7 at Providence Hill Sporting Club near Jackson.

Providence Hill has also selected to be host to a 2017 NSCA Regional.

The club earned the host status by meeting certain NSCA criteria related to experience, events and facilities, and is the only club in Mississippi to qualify.

“The club is excited to be chosen as the venue for the 2016 NSCA Mississippi Sporting Clay Championship,” Manager Jimmy Grant said. “The best shooters in the state and our region will be participating.  We’re encouraging shooters in all classifications to participate in this year’s championship, including women and beginner shooters.”

Grant said Providence Hill already has almost 300 shooters from Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, Tennessee and other surrounding states to register for the state competition, which will consist of Five Stand, Sporting Clays, Super Sport, Sub-Gauge, Three Bird, True Pairs, Fitase, as well as a Helice 10 bird race.

Competitors will shoot in classifications based on skill level. The 200 Target Main Event Championship for registered shooters and the 100 Target 5-Stand will take place on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 6-7.

• 100 Target Preliminary, Thursday-Friday.

• 50 Target Preliminary 5-Stand, Thursday-Friday.

• 50 Target Sub-Gauge, Side by Side, True Pair & Super Sporting, Thursday-Sunday.

• HOA Sub-Gauge Event, Thursday-Sunday.

• Three-Bird Competition, Thursday-Sunday.

• 50 Bird FITASC, Friday-Sunday.

• Helice 10-Bird Race, Friday-Sunday.
