TV angler Wejebe dies in plane crash

Jose Wejebe was best known as the star of the TV fishing show, Spanish Fly.

Television personality Jose Wejebe, famous for his nationally-aired TV show Spanish Fly, died Friday when a plane he was piloting crashed in the Florida Everglades.

Wejebe was 54.

Spanish Fly first aired on ESPN2 in 1995, and more recently appeared on the Outdoor Channel.

“Jose was an amazing guy, and someone that just made you feel good about life every time you talked to him,” said Bryan Emrich, vice president of marketing for Plano, one of Wejebe’s sponsors. “Jose will be deeply missed both as a friend and professional colleague.”
