Youth program funding available from MDWFP

The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks is accepting applications for the Youth Participation Initiative Program from organizations interested in helping MDWFP get more youth involved in the great outdoors.

Application deadline is Aug. 13. Click here for guidelines, and here to download an application.

The program was established to provide funding for educating youth about hunting, fishing, conservation and safety.  In 2009, the YPI provided $160,000 to help fund 24 projects around the state.

State agencies, education institutions and non-profit organizations are eligible to apply for funding.

Interested parties are urged to consider projects that focus on recruitment, retention and/or education of youth in the fields of hunting, fishing, or conservation. Projects that consider increasing opportunity in the areas of hunting, fishing or conservation, or that educate youth in any area of safety relating to hunting, fishing or conservation are also encouraged.  Applications will be accepted until 5pm on August 13th, 2010.

More information about the Youth Participation Initiative Program can be found at www.mdwfp.com or by contacting Justin W. Thayer, Youth Outreach and Recruitment Coordinator, at 601.432.2014 or Justin.Thayer@mdwfp.state.ms.us.
