Free deer management seminar to be held in Lumberton

Hunters and landowners in Southeastern Mississippi can learn more about effectively managing deer in the region during a free seminar schedule for Thursday (June 30) in Lumberton.

MDWFP, Mississippi State University, QDMA team to provide management schemes.

A free deer management seminar is slated for Thursday (June 30) at the Ben Barrett Lamar County Community Center in Lumberton, and will feature a partnership between the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks and the Coastal Plains Branch of the Quality Deer Management Association (QDMA).

The seminar will begin at 6 p.m.

“This is our first free educational seminar for local hunters, landowners and anyone interested in learning about managing white-tailed deer,” chapter President Brad Roundtree said.

The goal of the event is to provide information on managing deer in the southern part of the state,.

“Like this new chapter, the program will be tailored to south Mississippi, highlighting the unique challenges of managing deer in the region’s soils,” said Justin Thayer, MDWFP Deer Program Biologist.

The program will feature Don Bales from Mississippi State University Cooperative Extension Service, Regional QDMA Director J.B. Wynn, and MDWFP’s Thayer.
