I was fortunate to harvest this nice solid 9 point (11 with kickers) on Dec. 27, 2011 while hunting with my brother and 2 good friends in Mississippi. It was the last day of my 7 day out-of-state license (grew up in MS but now live in AZ) and the minutes were beginning to fly by as my license was coming closer and closer to expiration. At 4:19 PM a very big bodied doe walked out 125 yds away in a food plot. She was directly in the line of the sun which made it hard to see her. She was so big and hard to see with the low lying sun I had to take a look through my scope just to confirm that she was indeed a doe. Suddenly, as I was looking at her, all I saw was what looked to be horns moving behind her in my field of view. I remember thinking 'did I just see what I think I just saw'. I quickly looked over the top of the scope and yes it was, a massive horned buck making his way across the corner of the field. My heart sank, then began to race, and then the shaking began. Although he never came to a complete standstill, he presented me with a good shot. Not trying to think about the horns and the fact that this was indeed the biggest buck I had ever seen, I took the shot. He buckled, hunkered down, and began digging in as he ran out of the field with his tail down. There was no blood trail but only went about 50 yrds. The best part of the trip was the time I was able to spend with my brother and friends. I don't get to come home all that much so times like these are good memories. The deer just made it even sweeter! The harvest was made with my Rem 700 5R 308 mounted with a US Optics 3.8-22x58mm and 168 Barnes TSX BT ammo.
