Hey Widow I've been hunting on a little piece just a few miles before Copiah WMA on same road for the last 14 years and do extremely well. All the locals talk about the good population on Copiah. It's one of the most managed WMA's anywhere. The website for Copiah is very comprehensive and shows all stats for past years. Downfall for non residents is ya can't shoot a doe from what I remember but they do have a lot of decent bucks around it due to surrounding huge private landowners. The habitat is great, easily hunted and very few mosquitoes. Make sure you follow all sign in out rules as they seem to very active on enforcement.

Hey Jim how have you been? It's been a long time since I've talked with you. Thanks for the info on Copiah WMA. I keep hearing good things about this place and would like to try it out. I'm going to call the WMA and ask about shooting the does. I thought Miss changed that rule last year and non residents can now shoot them. I know we could on St Catherine's creek last season. That's the whole reason I avoided Miss all these years. Even if we can't I'm still hunting Miss this season. To many BIG bucks have been falling to stay away any longer....lol ....From the map Copiah WMA looks awesome.

I went look at data again on harvest and I don't understand why bucks and does are not better than they are. I hunt just a few miles south on same road and have taken about 40 nice bucks in past 14 years and most of those weighed between 185 lbs up to 217 lbs with most mature bucks weighing between 200 and 205lbs. Does have been steadily getting heavier with most does between 105 and 130 with occasional 140lber. Don't know why such a weight/size difference from a couple miles. Copiah ground looks better than ground I hunt.
