It all started in 2012 with a basket rack 8 on camera. Something was different about him though from any other deer. As the summer progresses I began watching him and he vanished in October that year. Picked him back up on camera in early summer of 2014 and he had put on some inches and was on his way to a true monarch. In 2015 at the ripe age of 4 1/2 he added a 9th point and I became fixated on him and so I gave him a name. “Big 9”. Hunted hard and long but he was always a step ahead of me like the ghost in the darkness. 2016 rolls around and again he’s a 9 and he’s sporting what we’ve estimated to be around 156-160” impressive rack and is just a beautiful creation. I switched stand locations completely on the property and put together an entire new plan. I found his bedroom. I knew his home like my own and yet again after thousands of pictures, the ghost got away.
2017 growing starts at 6 1/2 years old and the mass is very noticeable. His frame is more than you can dream for. But to my surprise he is back to a 8 point. I told my family and friends that this is the year. I will kill “Big 9”. I spent hours on end digesting every picture and recapping the previous years and his every move. Same stand as 2016 was where it is going down and I will be there. I made several sits and to my disappointment no “Big 9”. I decided to let the stand rest a bit and on November 28th 2017 after a all night shift at work I went home and got ready to go make a sit. As my evening was wrapping up without a single deer I was starting to doubt my decision and overall myself. I mean in 4 years I haven’t physically seen him so how can I possibly do it now, right ? At 5:10 p.m. I’m watching the trails to my left on the down wind side any deer should appear from and I just happened to look in front of me and like out of a dream, there he stood at 32 yards like a ghost. I never hesitated before raising my rifle and just looked at him. He turned to take a step and I dropped the hammer. To my surprise he dropped where he stood and all I could do was sit in awe. As I sat staring I replayed what just happened repeatedly in my mind. I thought about all the hard work and let downs over the years and it finally hit me. It really is him ! It really just happened ! I killed the ghost....

He green scored 148” even and according to current Magnolia State Records he is the largest 8 ever taken in Pearl River County and he will rank #4 for the County in the Typical class for the County as well. Weighs in at 200 lbs and is sporting 24” beams with 11” G2’s and 8” G3’s and a 19 7/8” spread.

I’ve tried several times to post them but when I hit load they don’t appear. Don’t know if the issue is because I’m doing it on my phone
