Took off work early yesterday and we for an early afternoon hunt. I noticed a couple of scrapes near my climber the other day and decided to move my stand just off the scrape line. There were 2 scrapes the other day and yesterday there were 5. i got in my stand around 2:30. I heard something coming thru the thicket around 3:15pm and i hit my grunt twice. The deer made a beeline for me. He couldn't have been coming out of a worse spot. The tree im in is at the base of a big ridge....ridge is about 25 ft up and so am i. he came out pretty much eye about 14 yds away. i pulled back right as he came out. He never knew what hit him. He jumped and lost his balance and flipped down the ridge. he got up and ran about 30 yds and crashed. He was missed the bottom of his front left leg
Well, I dropped my first deer of the season. I hit her at 24 yds with my recurve. the arrow hit her a little high bc she dropped when i shot but it passed all the way thru. I found the arrow about 30 yds from where she was shot. No blood anywhere except on the arrow. Not one drop. 4 of us searched for her. I finally found a little pool of blood about 60 yds away in a bedding area. then....no more blood...at all. All we could do is comb the area. 2 hours later and exhausted; we called it. I was not happy. We covered a lot of ground and we were about half a mile away from where she was shot. As we;re walking out; I see a white belly in the woods. Its her. She wasn't the biggest doe....only about 65lbs; but she'll taste great. Im just glad I found her.
