  • Well my niece finally decided to go hunting, she just turned 8 November 22. Her first hunt was actually the first day of youth season. She missed a buck that first morning but finally succeded that afternoon by killing her first doe. She's been begging and begging to go since then. We went a few times with no luck but always saw deer, which is good to keep the little ones interested. This past Sunday evening, 12/14/14 I was gonna surprise her and pick her up to go hunt, but when I pulled up they were walking out the door to head to a birthday party. Half way to the birthday party my sister had to turn around and bring her back cause she was throwing a fit cause she said she'd rather go hunting. Well, it's a good thing she did. We got to the stand at 3:00 and by 3:15 she had a doe down. She was about to bust a gut to get down and go put her hands on her deer, but I told her no let's sit tight it's still early, a buck might walk out. So about 5 o'clock she asked again if we could get down yet and when she said that I saw a deer at the end of the food plot. While we were watching the deer she said I hear something. I didn't pay any attention to it, I told her it was probably birds, and as soon as I said that she whispered no it's a buck. He came out at about 15 yards and walked on out and stopped about 50 yards when he saw her doe laying in the food plot. He turned slightly quartering away, got her set up as quietly as we could cause he was so close. I let her know whenever she was ready to just squeeze the trigger. Then she shot. He hit the ground, but got up and ran into a thicket. We got down and immediately found blood. I trailed him for about 40 yards and lost blood so decided to head back to camp with the doe and let my dad look for him the next morning. Got the doe cleaned and a guy at camp wanted to go back and look for the buck one more time. We went to the last spot I found blood and couldn't find any beyond that point. Since it was so thick we just picked the easiest path to crawl through, and he was piled up 20 yards from the last drop of blood. She was 7 when she killed her first one. This was her fourth hunt and she doubled up with her second doe and first buck ever. I couldn't be any more proud. She's so young and handles the excitement so well to be as young as she is. She's also a pretty dang good shot! Thanks for reading!

Well, I said a little prayer at about 7:30 and at 7:45 I stood up to stretch my legs, and something told me to turn around. He was standing about 10 steps behind me. So, immediately I started getting nervous and the deer never knew I was there, but when hooking my release he looked straight up at me, he never blew but he leaped 3 times and was about 20 yards. I just knew it was over. I whistled at him to get him to stop and he turns around and starts walking straight back to me. So I whistled again and he turned broadside and I took the shot. He didn't run 100 yards. I don't think I could have been any happier. This is the biggest buck of my life and I killed him with my bow!
