Fished Okhissa today. Caught an 8 and a 6 off of a bed.
Saw very few fish. Saw a TON of boats, and got alot of dirty looks.
Its a small lake, loaded with timber. Its almost Spring time. There will be crowds. Not everyone that passes by you is out to mess you up.
Just because you get to a cove, a 30 acre cove first, it is not yours, believe me, I wish it was. Its Spring Time. It will be crowded. Relax and enjoy the lake.
I will be in the white/red Ranger with dual power poles and a platform on the front. You can fish right beside me if you like, on top of my boat if you like, just give a kind 'hello'.
There are plent of fish for all.
Not a very good video, but 'he' did his best filming me.
What you dont see, is the fish just cruising in this corner pocket around the boat while I banged its head over a dozen times with the jerkbait.
My buddy was fishing another fish on the bed on the front of the boat, and I was just killing time chasing this un-setup female in the pocket with my jerkbait...
It paid off.
Fished hard today (4/9/11). Caught 3. I ran the trolling motor on high all day passing up decent fish looking for that bucket mouth.
I saw some fish activity today that really baffled me. I came upon a hump in the back of a cove with a bed on it. In the bed, when I pulled up where 3 females in the 6lb-8lb range just circling it. On the hump with them, there must have been 100 or more bream.
I thought 'jackpot'....boy was I wrong. The fish mozyied off, and never sat up or chased the bream. The did keep coming back to the bed, circling, eye-ing my bait, but never really got interested in anything, but they were not spooked.
I left them, came back 4 hours later, and they were gone. No sign.
My theory is, there were too many bream in the area, and the fish (all females) did not want to bed up and spend their days chasing bream. They looked like 'fresh' fish, like they just moved up yesterday...
Tis site fishing.
I did however see a 'share-a-lunker' cruise up out the deep in a cove, and just mozy back down. I waited around for about 20 minutes to see if she cruised back up in hopes I may find her bedding in the days to come...She never came back up.
I believe at this time, probably around 50% of the bass has spawned, so we likely still have a good 3 weeks of site fishing left.
Good Luck and Stay Safe.
Spent the day on Okhissa this evening. Site fished only.
Only caught a few, HOWEVER, there are LOADS of females moving up on the beds.
I reckon we saw over 50 females in the 3lb-5lb range.
They did not work very well today, mainly because I believe they just moved up shallow Wed., the day after the new moon.
This weekend should produce some nice catches, on the beds, and off the beds.
