  • On the last day I had to bow hunt before gun season began I got this doe at close range. She was getting so close I had to pull back before she came out from the cover and took the shot about 10 yds away. She only made it to the woods and slightly up the hill next to my plot. But keep watching and see the impressive buck that was just too far out for me to take a shot at.

With a good breeze out this past weekend in SW Mississippi I took this doe with my bow at about 20 yards. It was a good hit as she didn't go far at all. Listen just after the shot as you can hear limbs cracking as she falls 50 yards away.

These three bucks got right in front of my camera and fought for 15 minutes. It was like they wanted to be photographed.

The following video is of me taking a doe with my bow in SW Mississippi. Everything was going great until I found the deer. A very large wild hog had found my downed deer before I did. The following video is of me getting the deer with my bow, tracking it then having to take it back from the hog.

After having a terrible time finding a deer, I will never bow hunt in the rain no matter what seasaon. The blood trail couldn't be found, the terrain was rough and the woods were thick. Hunting over a clear cut with a rifle is a favorite of mine. Some areas are so thick they just have to be bow hunted. It's Bow Season all of the time for me, but there are days and stands I do enjoy hunting with a rifle.

Like most gear, I stick with it until someone PROVES to me there is something better. Fortunatetly a few years back over the span of a few weekends, while still using traditaional broadheads a friend and I shot two equal sized does a piece and hit them similarly. His Rocket Mechanical broadhead brought'em down in half the distance my traditional tip did. Having used a NAP broadhead I stayed loyal to the brand and have been using Spitfire 100 gr ever since.

I agree. We all put in a lot of work at our properties, gear and practice our skill for what is usually only a few moments at the moment of payoff. As well, I've had so many things observed that I wish I had on video. Just a couple of years ago I had two owls fighting by me and a 5'cottonmouth snatch and carry off a chipmunk just under my bow stand. That's when I went and got my camera!!!

Is that a Buffalo Classic .45/70 in the photo. If so, I have one and they are super accurate. Nice Hog!

Thanks for the well wishes, Mike. Over the years I have had many instances when I said, 'Man, I wish I had a video camera because no one is going to believe me.' Telling stories, all true of course, is something I love to do so why not do it with a camera? Online forums like this make it easy to bring success to others.

A comment titled: Deer Ridge Gun and Bow Camera Mount in response to a report titled: Dan Taking Deer Back from Large Wild Hog

Hookmnshootm: Go to Cabelas.com and search for the 'Deer Ridge Gun and Bow Camera Mount'. It goes on a rifle, shootgun or bow. Get this and a decent JVC or name brand SD Card Video Camera that has the 'Turn Operational Sounds' and 'Turn Light' OFF feature and your good to go.
