Hunted 3 days on a 2200 acre piece of land just outside Carthage. On the Pearl River. We each took a doe. Saw quite a few does but only a couple of small/young bucks.
I guess it was a good hunt. Was hoping the big tract of land would produce a few big bucks.
Now that I think about it, even a bad day hunting is a good day.
Homochitto National Forest update.
The dog hunters are out and about. As usual showing a lack of respect for the law and property owners.
I saw MDWF, US Forest service & Franklin county police having a discussion with two land owners and dog hunters. I think the dog guys skirted a ticket but caught the attention of everyone.
The dog hunters in Franklin County, Jessie Holland in particular are their own worst enemy.
I was on my land in Franklin county this weekend....did not hunt but did scout with my grandson. Man are the bucks starting to crank it up. Fresh rubs & scrapes almost everywhere I checked. It looks like more activity than there was last year.
Dog hunting is down because of the new rules in my area. Could that make a difference?
anyone know what the rule is on hunting the homochitto forest with dogs this year?
worked on the camp this weekend. It's around Meadville. saw quite a few doe's.
Everything is so dry. we need rain.
MDWF Commission News.
Commission will vote this week on new rules & regs on Dog hunting Homochitto.
If you know any of the commissioners, get in touch with them and ask them to vote yes for policing dog hunting on Homochitto Forest.
The MDWF office number is 601-432-2400.
New rules won't stop dog hunting just control it a little bit so guys that don't dog hunt have a chance.

What's the word from Franklin County?
i was up there a couple of weeks ago and saw a few rubs & scrapes but it wasn't hot.
Is it hot now? Are the bucks acting stupid yet?
worked our land in franklin county this weekend. Lots of signs, deer & turkey everywhere. But is it dusty. it's like someone is shaking a fine powder on everything.
it's so hot and dry we didn't plant the plots only tilled.
I assume if we plant now little will sprout, what's your take on when to plant?
