West Ship Island’s north beach is set to be rebuilt beginning next month to help stabilize the island and mitigate erosion, the U.S. National Park Service announced yesterday (July 18).

Coastal Mississippi is currently under extreme drought conditions. After two recent wildfires on Deer Island, the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources is reminding the public that Harrison and Jackson counties along the coast have a burn ban in effect that prohibits any outdoor burning, including campfires.
