700-pound blue marlin takes Mississippi Gulf Coast Billfish Classic

Since 1998, the Mississippi Gulf Coast Billfish Classic has been bringing in the big ones. Its 13th annual tournament was this past weekend (June 11-12), and four marlin brought to the scales – three of those weighing over 535 pounds.

Arkansas angler wins Grenada Lake BFL

Arkansas’ Jeff Johnston put a limit of bass weighing 15 pounds, 5 ounces in the boat June 25 to win the Bass Fishing League stop on Grenada Lake. Mississippi’s Roger Stegall was just less than a pound back in the BFL event.

Johnston said he was fishing shallow in Turkey Creek, flipping Havoc plastics on a black-and-blue jig to catch his tournament-winning stringer and pocket the $3,842 top check. […]
