Thousands of white bass die at Sardis Lake

More than 70,000 white bass turned belly up in Sardis Lake recently, and the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks said the cause is believed to be a naturally occurring bacteria.

What better way to celebrate the start of summer than with some free fun? Make plans to attend Katfishin’ Kids this Saturday, June 2, from 7 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. at the Turcotte Lab off Highway 43 at the Ross Barnett Reservoir.

This event is free to all and no equipment is needed. Bring the kids, 15 and under, for a fun-filled day where they can learn the basics of fishing. Pete Ponds spotted a flash and swirl that sent a school of small fry skittering across the top of the water. The Bassmaster Elite Series pro instantly sailed a Scumdog Walker Frog past the small fry and started working the lure back in a walk the dog pattern.

Just as it passed over the small fry, a bass crushed the lure and headed down toward deep water. Ponds dropped his rod tip, reeled in the slack and snapped the rod back, driving the Owner hooks deep into the jaws of the lunker bass and turning it toward the boat. […]
