Henley Greer gets her daddy buck

Five-year-old Henley “Boo” Greer of Canton with her first buck.

“My daughter is 5 years old and killed her first deer on Sunday, Dec. 19. She wanted to go again on Monday with her daddy and they saw a nice buck in the wood line. After she saw him, she wanted him. We hunted him every day last week. On Tuesday he came out again. The gun had a malfunction and she couldn’t get a shot. She was upset but said she would get him tomorrow. Wednesday came and she watched nine does and two 6 points. I kept asking if she wanted to shoot and she said no she wanted the daddy buck. So we sat.

Thursday came and we headed to the woods early because someone COULD NOT wait any longer to go. Her daddy got to sneak out to the stand with us after work. 4:30 came and went and that’s when our deer had been moving like clockwork. She was getting anxious. We saw a doe make a bee line across the field. I told her to get ready because she looked like a doe that had something chasing her. A 6-point runs out behind her and she puts the gun on him. Not daddy buck. But as we are scanning the field, we see him in the wood line. She puts the gun on him and tells me to zoom in. (It’s the scope mount where she uses my phone). He’s facing us. We tell her to let him walk out and get broad side.

He walks out and doesn’t slack up. She said make him stop. I told her to tell me when she was ready. He finally pauses. She puts the crosshairs on him and says ready set, and I make a doe bleet and she goes BOOM. She folded him in his tracks.

To say she screamed and hollered is an understatement and I’m pretty sure I was crying! Her daddy picked her up and almost knocked the blind over!

Our girl put the hammer down on her first buck and about puts mine to shame. (And mine made the cover of Mississippi Sportsman!)”
