Mississippi Commission on Marine Resources adds catches to state fishing record book.
Four state saltwater fishing records were added to the record book during the November meeting of the Commission on Marine Resources, the Mississippi Division of Marine Resources reported today (Nov. 17).
The records include conventioinal-tackle catches of blackfin tuna, Atlantic cutlassfish and vermillion snapper. There also was a fly-fishing record for lemon shark.
Gulfport’s Mark Herrmann set the bar in the conventional-tackle division for blackfin tuna with a 33-pound, .8-ounce fish caught on May 7.
Jonathan Stanley of Biloxi set the state conventional-tackle record for atlantic cutlassfish with a 2-pound, 9.44-ounce fish landed on July 16.
Gautier’s David Kuehn broke the state conventional-tackle record for vermillion snapper with a 5-pound, 1-ounce fish wrestled to baot on October 11.
Don Abrams of Ocean Springs caught the 11-pound, 15-ounce state fly-fishing record for lemon shark on October 15.
