Contest will benefit scholarship fund for 2014 pageant participants

One would be hard pressed to find an odder pairing, sporting clays and beauty pageants, but in Mississippi it seems shotguns and glamour might be a perfect fit.

The Miss Mississippi 2014 Sporting Clay Tournament will be held Friday (June 13) at the Turcotte Shooting Range on Mississippi Highway 43 near Barnett Reservoir. The event, which offers morning and afternoon shooting, benefits the scholarship fund for the 2014 Miss Mississippi and Miss Mississippi Outstanding Teen pageant participants.

Reigning Miss Mississippi Chelsea Rick will entertain during lunch, and many pageant contestants and former contestants and winners will be participating in the event or helping man the shooting stations.

Teams will consist of four shooters, and there are two ways to register. Individuals can sign up for $125 and will be teamed with other shooters, or teams can sign up as a whole for $500. The sporting clay competition is a 50-shot event.

The morning flight will be from 8:30-11:30 a.m. Lunch, included in the entry fee, will be served from 11:30 to 1 p.m. The afternoon flight will shoot between 1-4 p.m. Shooters must request either the afternoon or morning flights during registration.

Special competitions for Kamikaze Dove and Five Stand Warm-up will be held in both the morning and afternoon periods. Each carries an additional $25 entry fee.
