Draw Hunt Checklist

Many people consider public land to be void of good deer, unless it’s one where draw hunts are held. Charles Allen of Lake might argue that point. He took this 10-point on the Caney WMA just a few hours after dogs and hunters made a drive through the area during the 2013-14 season.

• Apply for WMA permits during the month of August. If you are selected, you will be notified by email.

• Applications can only be made at the MDWFP website mdwfp.com.

• If chosen print and bring a copy of your permit while hunting.

• Read all the information at the self-service check-in stations. Follow the directions for completing the check-in cards and return them to the station at the end of the day.

• Complete harvest data for all deer harvested.

• Rules and regulations for all WMAs is available at mdwfp.com.

• Pre-scout the area you plan to hunt as often as possible. Scouting times are limited once deer season opens Oct. 1.
