Temporary closure of campsites at Paul B. Johnson State Park

The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks announced another major renovation project for Mississippi State Parks. Starting Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2023, Paul B. Johnson State Park will be closing RV campsites, primitive camping sites, and bathhouses. This closure is in addition to full campsite closures at Percy Quin and Roosevelt State Parks and aims to enhance the visitor experience by improving the facilities and accommodations within the park.

Despite the temporary closures, Paul B. Johnson is still welcoming guests to stay at 16 available cabins, three cottages, and campsites 87-108. In addition to overnight accommodations, the park’s day use is still available and open for exploration. Take a scenic hike on Paul B’s “Trail of the Southern Pines” nature trail. Experience the challenge of our disc golf courses, enjoy the lake beach for swimming and water sports at Geiger Lake, and unwind in the inviting picnic area with six pavilions. The fun doesn’t stop there – they also have a splash pad (available until Oct. 1), playgrounds, and two tennis courts for you to enjoy. During renovations, day-use bathrooms will remain open, ensuring a comfortable visit for all guests.

The closures are expected to last up to one year. Guests will still be able to make reservations during the closure time.

To minimize any inconvenience caused by the closure, all guests with affected reservations will be contacted via call or email by Mississippi State Parks.
