Palmer, Bankston win deer photo monthly contests; finals round begins

MS-Sportman.com users Jackson Palmer and Justin Bankston took top honors in the final monthly edition of the Nikon Deer of the Year and Trail Cam photo contests. Palmer and Bankston now move on to the grand-prize round of voting that begins this afternoon.

Each of the users will receive an Official Sportsman Gear prize pack that includes a Sportsman T-shirt, a decal and a free one-year subscription to Mississippi Sportsman magazine.

Palmer, who father goes by the handle “hpalmer” on the Web site, is a 10-year-old who killed a beautiful 7-point for his first buck. The photo of the smiling young hunter was chosen by the site’s user as the top image from the Nikon Deer of the Year‘s January time period.

The photo, titled “Lucky New Year’s Deer,” received 69 percent of the votes cast in the contest.

“On his very next hunting trip, … he killed a 9-point with an 18 ½-inch spread,” the caption to his photo reads.

Van Clark (aka r clark) placed second in the contest with 30 percent of the votes for his son’s 130 5/8-inch buck killed the day after Christmas.

Rounding out the competition was 14-year-old Luke Seymour, who goes by seymour9 on the forum, with the photo of himself with a buck nicknamed “Big Boy.”

Voting begins immediately to determine with of the four monthly finalists will be named the 2010-11 MS-Sportsman.com Nikon Deer of the Year. The winner will receive a special prize that is yet to be determined.

In the Trail Cam Contest, Bankston (aka jkbankstn) 71 percent of votes cast for the photo of a 170-inch buck he killed four months after the live shot was captured.

“Great pic to capture, and great motivation for the rest of the season,” he wrote in his caption.

Brandon Conner (Deadeye79) finished second in the contest with 19 percent of the votes for his “Eight point in the back yard,” and Scott Manning (spanky10012) earned remaining 10 percent for a image of a white turkey in a large flock.

Bankston joins the other four monthly Trail Cam Contest winners in a grand-prize round of voting that begins immediately. The winner will earn a new trail cam.
