Five saltwater fishing records certified by CMR

Zach Joseph of Ocean Springs set a new Mississippi recreational saltwater conventional-tackle fishing record with a bigeye tuna weighing 93 pounds, 5.6 ounces.

Five Mississippi saltwater conventional-tackle fishing records have been certified byt the Commission on Marine Resources, the agency reported today (July 21).

Catches added to the record book include a bigeye tuna, a yellowtail snapper, a scrawled filefish, a tilefish and a belted sandfish.

The state’s top bigeye tuna weighed 93 pounds, 5.6 ounces and was caught by Ocean Springs’ Zach Joseph on June 5.

However, a 203.9-pound bigeye tuna caught in mid June will bump Joseph’s catch to the No. 2 spot if it is ultimately certified.

Jacob Edwards-Faucette of Pascagoula set the state record for yellowtail snapper with a 7-pound, 3.52-ounce fish on June 10.

The 4.8-ounce scrawled filefish that now sits atop the record books was landed June 11 by Derrick Saucier of Pascagoula.

Mike Salvetti of Ocean Springs set the state record for tilefish with a 14-pound, 8-ounce fish on June 12.
