Events set for Ackerman, Brookhaven and Tupelo
Youth in three different areas of the state will have an opportunity to learn about fishing and catch some catfish on Saturday (April 11), with three free rodeos sponsored by the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks.
The three events include:
Choctaw Lake, Ackerman: Co-sponsored by the U.S. Forest Service, this event will be held at the popular fishing hole on the Tombigbee National Forest beginning at 9 a.m. Choctaw Lake is located three miles south of Ackerman on Mississippi Highway 15. Participants are encouraged to bring their own fishing gear, catfish bait and stringers. However, a limited amount of fishing gear will be available. Hansel King Sportsplex, Brookhaven: Co-sponsored by the City of Brookhaven Parks and Recreation Department, this fishing rodeo will begin at 8 a.m. The Hansel King Sportsplex is located on Industrial Park Road NE approximately 2.5 miles east of U.S. Highway 51. Participants are encouraged to bring their own fishing gear, catfish bait and stringers. However, a limited amount of fishing gear will be available. Veterans Park, Tupelo: Co-sponsored by the City of Tupelo, this rodeo will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the lake at Veterans Park, located on North Veterans Boulevard. Participants are encouraged to bring their own fishing gear, catfish bait and stringers. However, a limited amount of fishing gear will be available. The MDWFP sponsors dozens of youth fishing rodeos statewide throughout the year, providing opportunities for young anglers, aged 15 and under, to learn about fishing as well as catching catfish stocked just for the event.
