Two boaters rescued by MDMR Marine Patrol officer

The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources (MDMR) Marine Patrol rescued two men near Long Beach on Tuesday (June 11) after their fishing boat capsized.

Marine Patrol responded to a distress call that came over the VHF radio about 4:30 p.m. that a recreational fishing boat had capsized and two men were in the water about 1.5 miles south of Long Beach.

MDMR Marine Patrol Officer Scott Anderson responded to the call and arrived on the scene within 3 to 4 minutes. The two men, Jarrord Michael Ladner of Long Beach and Jaden Schmalzried of Gulfport, were picked up by Officer Anderson and taken to Long Beach Harbor where their friends were waiting for them. No injuries were sustained.

“I commend Marine Patrol Officer Scott Anderson for his swift response and am appreciative to all of our Marine Patrol officers for their dedication to ensuring the safety of those who travel our marine waters,” said MDMR Executive Director Jamie Miller.
