MDWFP’s Marksmanship Program awarded grant

The MDWFP secured an $8,500 grant from the National Shooting Sports Foundation to help buy supplies for its Marksmanship Program.

NSSF grant to help purchase supplies for shotgun, rim-fire, air-rifle shooting classes.

The state Marksmanship Program has received an $8,500 grant for the third year in a row, the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks announced today.

The grant was awarded by the National Shooting Sports Foundation and will help pay for supplies and ammunition used in the Shotgun 101 and 102 classes, along with rim-fire and air-rifle classes, the MDWFP said.

“We’re very excited about the wonderful support we’ve received for our basic and advanced shotgun classes,” MDWFP Marksmanship instructor John Satterwhite said.

Classes for the 2011 Mississippi Marksmanship Program will be available until the end of August. Call 407.414.4264 to register for a class.

The NSSF issued $435,000 in grants to shooting ranges this year and $1.17 million in the past three years to 46 ranges across the nation. The NSSF Range Grant Program was launched in 2008 to improve qualifying shooting ranges in their efforts to promote the shooting sports to people of all ages.
