Evers wins second Elite Series stop, earns 2012 Bassmaster Classic berth

Targeting the backwaters of the St. Johns River system, and finding an 8-3 “mule” on the last day led Edwin Evers of Talala, Okla., to the win Sunday in the Power-Pole Citrus Slam with 77 pounds, 1 ounce, shutting out three-day leader Alton Jones and hard-charging Terry Scroggins.

Trailing Jones by about 2 1/2 pounds before Sunday’s finale, Evers sealed his sixth Bassmaster win by overtaking Jones and besting him by more than 3 pounds. Jones ended in third place with 73-12, leaving second place to Scroggins, who had 74-3. […]

Jones remains leader of St. Johns River Bassmaster Elite Series stop

Alton Jones has a plan, and he’s sticking to it. After all, it’s taken the pro from Waco, Texas, into the lead for two days running at the March 17-20 Bassmaster Elite Series stop on the St. Johns River.

Yesterday (March 18), Jones brought in 22 pounds, 13 ounces, more than enough to repeat his Day One lead. His 49-6 total over two days put a distance of 7 pounds, 9 ounces, between him and J. Todd Tucker of Moultrie, Ga., who had 41-13 for second place. In third place with 40-0 was Terry Scroggins of Palatka, Fla., the hometown pro who has a rich history to tap into, and a seemingly infinite number of spots to go to up and down the river. […]

Mark Tucker must have felt some sense of redemption.

After plying his fishing skills on the Elite Series for the past 10 years, he opted out of an 11th season at the 11th hour, choosing instead to give the Opens a try.

In a squeaker on Texas’ Lewisville Lake, Tucker found just enough weight to win his first B.A.S.S. victory. And for claiming the Bass Pro Shops Bassmaster Central Open, he takes home $10,000, a Skeeter/Yamaha boat and motor package worth $25,000 and a berth in the 2012 Bassmaster Classic. […]

Despite less-than-ideal conditions, Mark Tucker of St. Louis topped his Day 1 catch that increased his lead and put him in position to win on Lewisville Lake.

Mark Tucker’s decade on the Bassmaster Elite Series served him well Thursday, and the veteran angler discovered a way to put together 16 pounds, 10 ounces during the first 2011 stop of the Central Bassmaster Open on Texas’ Lake Lewisville.

With 159 boats, the 29,000-acre lake is fishing small, so Tucker had plenty of company on a day that saw rain showers and clearing with afternoon winds steady at 25 mph. […]
